Points of interest

Indiana State Department Health does advisories by group. Groups are numbered 1 to 5 where 1 is unrestricted consumption except for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, women who plan to have children, and children under the age of 15 an group 5 is NO consumption for anyone. Group 5 waterways are here. It takes a bit more effort to find out what contaminants are where.

Charles Santerre, associate professor of foods and nutrition and an expert on food safety of Purdue's Department of Foods and Nutrition says:
"If you're going to catch fish out of rivers and streams, check the state fishing advisory to see if you should eat it, or how often you should eat it. If you're fishing from areas with high levels of contamination, you may want to 'catch and release' and buy your fish to eat from a grocery store."
