FishingLink.org was founded by a small group of people that love the outdoors and have a definite affinity for seafood. The founders represent three generations of individuals growing up along the Coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Of the three board members two were Catholic and grew up in Louisiana in a period when Catholics could not eat meat on Fridays. I assure you that, at least in South Louisiana that can hardly be considered a sacrifice. Where Cajun and Creole cooking reign, Friday was a day to look forward to for more than one reason. Those members have watched the lakes around New Orleans deteriorate and then begin to rebound. Those changes were not without their effects but wholesome seafood food abounds again around the “City That Care Forgot”. The third member grew up near Galveston Texas where the deterioration has been slower but where the waters have not experienced the rebound that South “Louisianians” know is possible. Our approach is not to work with the waterways (many fine groups are devoted to that cause) but to focus on the resources we remove from those waterways for consumption. While it is not an overstatement to say that some danger lurks in eating seafood. We know the resources are utilized and that the consumer needs to get smart about what they eat. Our goal at present is to simply point at the information that exists in great abound in scattered files and databases around the world. We are at present a small part-time group and are currently working primarly to point to information in the US and its territories. As skills and resources are developed that goal will be expanded. Speaking of expanding we now have 10 board members.
